Welcome to the world's only website devoted to the artwork of my father, Pierre deMontascue Charlamagne III. Dad won't touch a computer, so there's little need to
worry that he will take offense at anything on these pages, but I have changed his name slightly, as you, dear reader, have probably guessed.
Dad's artwork has been variously described as primative, political, poignant and perverse. Those who really understand it usually describe it as "Very Pete".
All of Dad's work is created from found objects. His motto, if he had one, would be "I like to use what I've got." In other words, he only makes art from materials readily at hand. Mostly stuff pulled from trash cans or found by the side of the road.
Pete's work falls primarily into four main categories:
Unfortunately, many examples of Dad's work, particularly those from the "Early Birdhouse Wars " have been destroyed by exposure to the elements or simply The March of Time. One quality of being "Very Pete " is the seemingly purposeful disregard for longevity displayed in the materials, workmanship and presentation of most Pete Projects . Many observers find this quality humble and endearing. Critics have noted that such planned obsolescence may be an intentional way of raising the market value of pieces in private collections. You decide.
